Kitchen Gardener – Private Estate (Mediterranean Climate)

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Kitchen Gardener to join the gardens and grounds team of a private household with expansive landscaped grounds, including a substantial potager (kitchen garden) and dedicated nursery areas. This position is essential to supporting the estate’s culinary and household operations through the provision of high-quality seasonal produce and cut flowers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, develop, and maintain a productive kitchen garden and nursery areas, with a focus on Mediterranean-adapted crops and growing conditions.
• Create and manage detailed crop rotation schedules and seasonal planting plans to ensure consistent supply of fresh produce for household chefs and staff.
• Cultivate and harvest a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, fruits, and cut flowers aligned with the culinary and decorative needs of the household.
• Monitor soil health, irrigation systems, pest control, and plant health to maintain high-quality outputs using sustainable and efficient horticultural practices.
• Collaborate with the broader garden team on estate-wide landscaping and maintenance tasks as required.
• Maintain detailed records of planting cycles, yields, and maintenance schedules.
• Stay informed on best practices and new developments in kitchen gardening and horticulture, particularly in relation to Mediterranean climates.
Ideal Candidate:
• Proven experience working as a kitchen gardener or similar role within a private estate or high-end horticultural environment.
• Strong knowledge of Mediterranean crop cultivation, soil health, irrigation methods, and organic practices.
• Familiarity with cut flower production and small-scale nursery management.
• Highly organized with the ability to plan and implement seasonal growing strategies.
• Flexible and collaborative, willing to assist in broader landscaping and estate duties.
• Practical, hands-on, and self-motivated with excellent attention to detail.
• Discreet, professional, and respectful of the private household environment.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Horticultural certification or relevant agricultural qualifications.
• Experience working within luxury estates or high-standard gardens.
• Knowledge of sustainable practices and permaculture principles a plus.
